20 Jan History, Leadership, and Paintball
Welcome to 2017!
I have often thought about what makes January so special. Back in 1582, when Pope Gregory XIII refined the Julian Calendar to today’s Gregorian Calendar, January 1st became more widely accepted as the beginning of the year. Some say that January 1st goes all the way back to 45 BC!
Each January for the last three years, we have started the year with a staff retreat at Deer Run Retreat Center just outside of Nashville, TN. Typically, our Q4 is packed with travel, shows, logistics, and sometimes just survival kits. January offers a time to reconnect our team, our culture, and reset for the coming year. We have new team members and have doubled in size during 2016. Streamline’s voice is no longer mine but a collection of our team. This was on full display at our retreat. Each business unit was tasked with a variety of objectives and to use their voice to define the growth and direction of Streamline in the days ahead. I could not be more excited about this group of people and how they are going to serve our client base with new offerings and better partnerships! Over the next few months we will introduce new elements, some small but powerful, and some that will be significant and signature driven.
As I sat back in the room and watched these people work, I am reminded that leadership – in my opinion – is defined by empowerment and trust. I trust this team to reflect our worldview, which is Client and Projects First and Streamline second. They are the voice of Streamline Event Agency.
Of course, no team-building event would be complete without some activity. The last few years we have done ropes courses and the like, but this year after two days in strategy sessions, we figured…why not shoot each other with paint. We are a formidable bunch and ready to take on the world!
Happy New Year!—Justin
